For the third time in four years, China faced off against Malaysia in the mixed team final of the Asian
Junior Championships. This was the first time, however, that China was able to take the crucial girls’ singles point to earn victory for the team. Sonia Cheah got the nod to take on China’s Di Suo in an attempt to duplicate the feat of her sister Lydia, whose win over Luo Jie in the 2007 final gave Malaysia its first mixed team crown. Sonia came up short, however, and couldn’t add to the already accumulated boys’ singles and doubles points and defending Asian
Junior Champions Tang Jinhua / Xia Huan finished off the 3-2 team victory for China.
The individual event kicks off this afernoon in Kuala Lumpur and three of China’s doubles players will be right back at it in first round action.
