The significance of the win was huge for the Germans as the same Danish pair had beaten them only a few months ago at the European Championships in Manchester denying the elegant Germans a bronze medal in the process.  While the result goes down on paper as a 2-game win, the reality is that the match was finely balanced from start to finish with never more than four points between both pairs.

“This is a really great result for us today as we felt big pressure coming into this game after the defeat in Manchester at the Europeans. It was a really tough battle and the heat in the hall is immense so we are happy to get out of there and into the second round in 2 sets,” said a happy Marinello and Overzier after their first round victory.
