Hong Kong – September 9th, 2010. Defending champion Wang Chen may come back from her retirement after Zhou Mi’s 2-year ban was announced this weekend.
By Kevin Kung, Badzine Correspondent.
The veteran played her last match at the Swiss Super Series this March and is now a coach for the women’s team (see Badzine feature HERE). After only half year of retirement, Wang Chen may show up on court as a player again at the Asian Games, after the national team coach hinted the title holder from the Doha Games may be added as a last minute change on the list of players sent to Guangzhou.
Even if he didn’t want to comment much about the issue, He Yiming answered a question from the local media, during the ZESPRI Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards Presentation Ceremony held on Tuesday in Hong Kong: “It is quite a good idea [for Wang Chen to replace Zhou Mi] for team competition.”
Should Wang Chen come back from retirement, it is yet to be revealed whether she would just step into Zhou’s shoes for the team event only, or for the individual event as well.
It is expected, however, that young talent Chan Tsz Ka will join Yip Pui Yin in the singles event.
