The Asian Para Games badminton finished in Guangzhou on Saturday with the traditional badminton powers predictably sharing the medals.  Malaysia produced the biggest haul with 3 golds and 8 medals in total while Korea dominated the wheelchair events, taking two golds and two silvers.  Thailand’s Amnouy Wetwithan (pictured) succeeded where her promising compatriots had come up short last month.  She won her nation’s only badminton gold, in the women’s wheelchair division.

Korea’s Lee Sam Seop (pictured right), triple gold winner at home at last year’s IBAD World Championships, had only one division open to him and he took gold in the men’s singles with a win over compatriot Choi Jungman.  The Korean athletes recently moved into a residential national training centre southeast of Seoul, where the players live and train full-time.

This time, Malaysia’s Cheah Liek Hou was the only double gold medallist, not dropping a single game on his way to the podium in both singles and doubles in the standing division.

Given the variety of events, it is not surprising that there was a much more even spread in the medals than in last month’s Asian Games.  Several nations picked up one medal each, including Hong Kong, which ended up with one gold, courtesy of Yu Kwong Wah (pictured below).
