The news which had been a rumour until now has been confirmed. Sources within the Korean badminton community have quoted Li Mao as saying the Asian Games was his last with the Korean team: Li Mao has said he has resigned from Korea and will most likely be coaching Indonesian players in a near future.
“Coaching in Korea has been a good experience for me,” Li was quoted as saying, “I would like to express my thanks to all of the Korean players, and to Park Sung Hwan and Lee Hyun Il in particular.”
The Chinese coach, who had been training the Korean men’s singles for a few years, has also now confirmed the information he was to leave Korea to China’s Badminton Magazine but did not make any official comments.
A source close to PBSI is aware of a trip soon to come from Li Mao to Indonesia, but it is yet to be confirmed whether he’ll officially be in charge of the coaching of PBSI’s players, main or back-up shuttlers.
In other news about Indonesia, Nova Widianto has definitely left the National Training Centre, as did the pair of Rian Sukmawan and Yonathan Dasuki.
