Before the start of today’s final matches at the 2011 Proton Malaysia Open Super Series, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) council held a meeting to decide the fate of men’s singles coach Misbun Sidek and would-be professional Hafiz Hashim.
The meeting, which started at 10am (Malaysian time) ended two and half hours later. First and foremost the BAM council has given a mandate to Datuk Nazmi Mohd Salleh, who is the current President of BAM, to speak to Misbun and make a decision on his situation. Misbun tendered his resignation early this month but BAM has yet to formally accept it.
On the other hand the, the BAM council has accepted Hafiz’s resignation. It will take effect on the 1st of February 2011 and the former All England and Commonwealth Games champion will be free to turn professional.
