Saina Nehwal took her first tentative steps in the All England this afternoon but had to contend with a severe draft in the hall before overcoming the stiff challenge of Bae Seung Hee of Korea in 2 games.

With the forced withdrawal of Wang Yihan from the bottom end of the draw the door is clearly open for Saina Nehwal to stake her claim to lift the coveted All England title.
Nehwal was very nervous in the opening set but soon adjusted to the winding NIA conditions and in essence adapted better and quicker to the conditions than her opponent.
After claiming the opening game 21-13 the world number 5 advanced to the second round with a 21-16 win in the second to move into the second round where she will meet Tai Tzu Ying after the Chinese Taipei shuttler beat a very out of sorts Linda Zechiri.
