After over a decade as Malaysia’s top women’s singles shuttler, Wong Mew Choo has decided to retire from international competition, Malaysian daily The Star reported today.
Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh told the Star: “Mew Choo sent in her resignation letter today and we have accepted it. The BAM wish to record their appreciation to her for her long and good service to the country.”
Nadzmi went on to say that Wong had been asked to remain with BAM to coach junior players.
Wong, who has struggled with various injuries in the past few years, is perhaps best remembered for her miracle run at the 2007 China Open Super Series, where she overcame the home-court advantage of four top Chinese shuttlers to win the title.
