In an editorial which could sound like a church sermon, Rajes Paul, a reporter from The Star slams the Badminon Association of Malaysia (BAM) for depriving independent players Gan Teik Chai and Tan Bin Shen of qualification for the World Championships in London from Aug 8-14. Paul – who was winner of Malaysia’s best print media sports commentary award in 2010 – states in her article that fair play should come first and certainly before BAM’s own interest and she questions the governing body’s process into giving a spot earned on merit to another pair.
“FAIRNESS and fair play are rules sportsmen and sportswomen the world over abide by.
Try telling that to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), who unceremonously dropped former internationals Gan Teik Chai-Tan Bin Shen from the World Championships,” are the first words of her editorial.
