Kim Joong Soo will stay on as Head Coach of the Korean National Badminton Team until after the upcoming European tour, which includes the German Open, the All England Superseries Premier, and the Swiss Open. Korea’s Yonhap News Agency reported yesterday that Kim, who was brought back to the head coaching position on a temporary basis following the firing of Sung Han Kook as part of the fallout from the Olympic match-throwing incident – would hold onto the position until after the three European events and that he had also been made a member of the Executive Committee of the Badminton Korea Association (BKA).
Most of the shuffling of the BKA top brass has been accomplished over the past month, including the selection of National Assembly member Shin Gye Ryoon as the new President. However, the announcement of the new coaching may have to wait until after the Swiss Open. The national team coaches are currently conducting tryouts for the national singles squad, with 22 men and 24 women in the running. Only Bae Youn Joo and Sung Ji Hyun have been exempted.
