The expansion of the Axiata Cup competition to include teams from Europe and northern Asia has meant some interesting player selections. In particular, former mixed doubles World Champions Nathan Robertson and Zheng Bo will be among the member of the expansion teams that will compete with the expected strong contingents from Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, among others. Indonesia, which will host the first two legs of the competition, has two former World Champions of their own in Hendra Setiawan and Lilyana Natsir.
The format this year includes women players, unlike last year, and they will be featured only in women’s singles and mixed doubles, while women’s doubles is still omitted from the competition format.
