Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh has announced that he will not seek re-election as President of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) and that he has accepted the offer to assume the presidency of the Badminton Asia Confederation (BAC). However, the latter decision could lead to his backing out of the race for the top post at the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
“I must consider all factors as being the Asian president,” Nadzmi told the New Straits Times. “I cannot be pursuing something which will reduce the chances of another Asian candidate to win the contest.
“Yes, it will influence my decision on whether to go for it. I need to consider many factors. I will announce it soon.”
Nadzmi, who was asked to be BAC President after Katsuto Momii was removed by a vote of no confidence (see related article here), is currently one of two Asians, along with Justian Suhandinata of Indonesia, who are running for the presidency of the BWF, along with Badminton Europe President Poul-Erik Hoyer, who is seen to have an edge if pro-Asian votes were to be split.
