After the announcement from Juliane Schenk to retire from the German national team, the German Badminton Association published an official press release mentioning that the player was expelled from the squad but that she would still be entered by the Association to play in the World Championships due to her high ranking. The words used in the press release, however, strongly suggested that the governing body did not appreciate Schenk’s behaviour:
“After many years of promotion and a very successful cooperation in the result, we currently see no basis for a trusting relationship with Juliane Schenk,” said Karl-Heinz Kerst, president of the DBV. The reasons would be violations by Juliane Schenk to common rules of behavior and exaggerated demands against the association.
According to the German Association, after a good start in 2013, Juliane Schenk cancelled her participation in the Sudirman Cup at the last minute because of a lack of recognition from the Association for the work of her former mental trainer and current partner.
“This is incomprehensible and not a reason to cancel her participation.” said head coach Holger Hasse.
Nevertheless, the German Body doesn’t want to deny Juliane her participation in the World Championships in Guangzhou. “She is actually number two in the world which is the highest position of her career. It would not be justified to exclude her from the competition,” said Holger Hasse.
