The competition schedule and teams have been unveiled for the 2014 edition of Indonesia’s Djarum Superliga – a team competition held over a period of 7 days, from February 3rd to 9th. The league involves 10 teams in separate women’s and men’s team events and the matches should provide quite an amazing level, as all the top local shuttlers will be joined by the likes of Lee Chong Wei, Kenichi Tago, Marc Zwiebler, Lee Sheng Mu – possibly Lee Yong Dae – and many other top international stars.
The competition is to be held in Surabaya and the finals will be broadcast on Trans TV. Each team competition offers total prize money of 1 billion rupiah (approx. US$83,000). The format is similar to the 2013 edition, which already featured entire teams from elsewhere in Asia. In 2014, Korean and Malaysian teams will be absent from the women’s competition but instead, Japanese involvement has increased from 2 to 3 teams and Thailand, Singapore, and Thailand are also sending teams.
The men’s competition also sees the addition of teams from Thailand and Singapore, while only a single Japanese team will feature in the 2014 edition, down from two last year. Malaysia will again be contributing a men’s team.
Here are the current rosters for all participating teams.
