“More testing needed,” says BWF

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced yesterday that more testing will be done on the new scoring system before implementing it at the highest level, and that it will be only after the 2016 Rio Olympic Games that such a change could take place. Discussions were held within the BWF Council in recently Lima and this decision will certainly reassure some of the players who had voiced concerns about the system changing just before the Olympic qualifying period, which starts this coming May, without having it tested in the major and Superseries events.

Two different scoring systems will be tried next year – one with setting to three points when players reach 10-10, and another formula where a game must be won by a two-point margin but with a cap at 15 points.  From June to October, the BWF ran an online poll on their earlier 5×11 proposal but the poll results have not yet been made public.
