Ratchanok Intanon was cleared today of doping suspicion and can participate in the upcoming Rio Olympics. The Badminton World Federation published a press release today saying that the BWF Doping Hearing Panel had determined that the Triamcinolone Acetonide detected in a urine sample taken from Intanon during the Uber Cup Finals in May was not a doping violation as it was part of a medical treatment process where it was administered intra-tendinously, an authorised administration route.
Triamcinolone Acetonide, a Class S9 glucocorticoid is a Specified Substance that is prohibited in-competition under the 2016 WADA Prohibited Substance List when administered orally, intravenously, intramuscularly or rectally, but not intra-tendinously. The Panel reached its decision after a video conference hearing, and after reviewing the athlete’s medical background and records of treatment, as well as testimony from an expert witness.
