On December 3, the Nippon Badminton Association announced the list of members of its national team for 2019.

They will divide the members into A and B teams and announce them on December 11.  The B team, or back-up, players are typically not sent to tournaments above the Grand Prix Gold, or Super 300, level.  However, in recent years, certain B team members have been compelled by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) to compete in the bigger tournaments by virtue of having reached the world’s top 10 (15 for singles) and being counted among the BWF’s Top Committed Player category.
