Their names start with the same two letters and they will both go back home with two gold medals around their necks: Peter Kasbauer from Germany and Anita Kauj from Malaysia both struck twice in Cardiff during the Yonex Welsh International (International series) held this week-end.
Peter Kasbauer clinched his first medal with Johanna Goliszewski in the mixed doubles. Top seeds, the Germans beat their compatriots Zurwonne/Nelte in straight games. More suprising is Kasbauer’s win in the men’s doubles with his partner Josche Zurwonne – on the right side of the net this time – as the duo was not seeded for the event. They beat Middleton and Stawski of England 21-19, 21-12.
Anita Kauj, flying Malaysia’s flag in spite of being based in Leeds where she goes to University, scooped two gold medals as well. She partnered her compatriot – also a Leeds Uni student and former Malaysian National team player Joanne Quay – for a first in the women’s doubles, before scooping the singles title as well against Indonesia’s Atu Rosalina who just had to cross the Channel as she is a member of France’s rising club of Chambly. She beat Atu 23-21, 21-15.
