Korea’s national team will be staging a selection event this week for all but seven of its doubles players. After having selected 20 singles players through a round-robin last month, the doubles players, including Malaysia Grand Prix Gold semi-finalists Cho Gun Woo and Kwon Yi Goo, will now have to prove their worth.
Ten men and nine women currently on the national team will compete to retain their spots with possible competition coming from 5 junior boys and 5 junior girls as well as 16 more older players, most with past national team experience.
The seven players exempt from the team selection tournament – combined with the five given a pass from the singles test – will almost certainly form Korea’s Sudirman Cup team. Lee Yong Dae, Ko Sung Hyun, Yoo Yeon Seong, Kim Min Jung, Ha Jung Eun, and Jung Kyung Eun will be otherwise occupied when the trials begin on May 11th. Jung Jae Sung, currently on honeymoon in Hawaii, will also not be made to participate.
