The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has soft-launched an official badminton channel on Youtube. The channel will provide both live streaming and Video-on-Demand (VOD).
The new channel – http://badmintonworld.tv – ‘is the product of a partnership between the BWF and Google that was facilitated under the advisory of TotalSportsAsia’ according to the BWF press release.
Live streaming was to start with the quarter-final stage of the ongoing Li-Ning Singapore Open Super Series. For the rest of the badminton year, streaming of the regular Super Series events will be from the quarter-final stage onwards, while Premier Super Series event coverage will begin from the Round of 16, normally the Thursday matches.
“This is another initiative from the BWF to reach out to more fans across all continents,” BWF president Dr Kang Young Joong was quoted in the press release as saying. “This is also in line with the BWF’s aim to use different media platforms to raise the profile of the sport and the players.
“The BWF is excited with what the future holds for the sport and will continue to look into ways and means to enhance the visibility of the sport,” concluded Dr Kang.
