A Superseries Premier event should go to Malaysia, while the Australia, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand Opens should be bumped up to Superseries status, according to the votes cast by Badzine readers. Since October 17th, Badzine has been running a poll asking readers to vote on which of the candidate cities should be granted the right to host the next round of the BWF World Superseries, from 2014 to 2017. Based on the results so far, for the Supseries Premier events, our readers have chosen the four existing SSP hosts – Indonesia, England, Denmark, and China – and as the new addition to the Premier echelon, Asia’s oldest elite badminton tournament, the Malaysia Open, is ahead by a nose, with Australia only four votes behind.
Meanwhile, for the seven remaining Superseries events, our readers have voted for Hong Kong and India to be relegated, as current Grand Prix Gold events Australia and Chinese Taipei are clearly ahead of them in the voting. However, things are less clear for the final Superseries spot. While new entry Thailand is in seventh place in the poll, Singapore would be far ahead if one were to add in the votes it received from the Superseries Premier poll. Given the number of ‘spoiled ballots’, though – where visitors cast votes for Singapore in both polls at once – we would have to conclude that Thailand is the twelfth Superseries host preferred by Badzine readers.
We will leave the poll open until the BWF makes its decision this month. Click here if you have yet to cast your vote.
