China is still dangerous in women’s singles, though, as reigning World Champion Lu Lan will be there, flanked by recent Badminton Asia Championship finalists Li Xuerui and Liu Xin. Korea and Indonesia, though nearly at full strength, will be missing a handful of marquee players as Taufik Hidayat, Lee Kyung Won, Lee Yong Dae, and Jung Jae Sung will all be staying home. Lee Hyo Jung will be reprising her Uber Cup partnership with Kim Min Jung in Singapore however, and will also be playing mixed with Swiss Open runner-up Shin Baek Cheol.
Singapore will be represented by a total of three family pairs in the doubles competitions. Not only with Hendra Wijaya team up once more with brother Hendri Kurniawan Saputra in men’s doubles and sister Sari Shinta Mulia in mixed, but three-time champion Candra Wijaya of Indonesia will also be playing men’s doubles with none other than brother-in-law and Singapore badminton legend Ronald Susilo.
