Bodin Issara’s club Granular has suspended the Thai player for his actions during the men’s doubles final last weekend at the Yonex Canada Open. Issara, who was disqualified by the umpire after a violent exchange with former partner Maneepong Jongjit, has been suspended without pay for the remainder of 2013, according to an article that appeared today on the website of Thai daily the Bangkok Post.
“We have taken steps to ensure that Mr. Bodin and his behaviour will become an important lesson for himself and other players,” the Post quoted the Granular letter as saying. “We have decided to suspend him from all domestic and overseas competitions for the rest of 2013.”
The letter apparently went on to say that Bodin would not receive a salary from Granular and that he would be required to coach juniors as a form of community service.
Bodin has apparently attempted to reach out to Maneepong to apologize but had yet to receive a response. Both he and his former partner still face disciplinary action from the Badminton World Federation, which is requiring both players to submit written statements by this Tuesday.
