3 world top 11 shuttlers have left the Adidas due to injuries while several Chinese players have dropped out due to their success at the ongoing China National Games.  World Champion Ratchanok Intanon is the highest-profile player to drop out on the eve of the tournament, the first since the tour took a break around the World Championships.  Ratchanok has been suffering from a lower back injury since winning the Worlds and also withdrew from last month’s All Thailand Championships.

Joining Ratchanok on the sidelines is Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, who complained of a chronic injury to her left knee following her loss in her home Grand Prix Gold final on Sunday.  Korea’s Lee So Hee also withdrew, still put off by the injury that kept her from playing the final on Sunday in Taipei.  Shin Seung Chan, the other half of their world #11 women’s doubles partnership, is still active in the mixed doubles, where she and Lee Yong Dae were promoted to the main draw after the withdrawal of two Chinese juniors.

The Chinese team had even more casualties as several young players did well enough in Liaoning that they were unavailable to play Tuesday in Changzhou.  However, in addition to this list – which includes Liu Kai, Huang Yuxiang, Xia Huan, and Zhang Zijun – other withdrawals may follow before Wednesday matches, since the likes of Du Pengyu, Wang Zhengming, Fu Haifeng, Ou Dongni, Han Li, Zhang Nan, Wang Xiaoli, Zhong Qianxin, Zhao Yunlei, Cheng Shu, and Tang Jinhua all won their Tuesday matches.
