BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer will be officially proposed as an member in Sochi next February during the Winter Olympic Games. The website insidethegames published the news this morning where Thomas Bach, IOC President announced the nomination of the Dane.

“The news has come as a surprise – I was told to get my candidature in and I knew as an International Federation President that it would be considered – but it is great that the arrows have turned my way,” Høyer told insidethegames.

“I am very happy and it definitely means a lot to me personally, but it is also very important for badminton to gain that position.”

Høyer is the second president of the Badminton Federation to be nominated as an IOC member after Britain’s Sir Craig Reedie, current vice-president of the IOC, who was a former President of the then-IBF. The Dane is likely to enter the IOC as he is the only candidate proposed for the Sochi session.
