The Fernbaby Auckland International Series has become one of the first, if not the first, to answer the call from the Badminton World Federation () to participate in the new 5×11 system experiment.

“BWF are pleased that this tournament has agreed to support the BWF in testing a new scoring system. The following experimental law of Badminton (Appendix 3 Other Scoring Systems) applies to the playing of this tournament,” reads the tournament prospectus.

The BWF has announced its wish to have tournaments up to the Grand Prix Gold level participate in the trial, from August to November of this year.  The time frame means that only two events scheduled to be streamed live on the world body’s Youtube site are also candidates for the scoring system trial.  However, following the Auckland International, which takes place from September 18th to 21st, Badzine will be bringing you a player and spectator perspective on this round of the experiment.
