Just as in June, Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge of England came to Jakarta and got off to an amazing start. At the Indonesia Open, they beat last year’s World Championship bronze medallists before losing a close one to the silver medallists. Today, they got up early to send packing world #8 Lee Sheng Mu and Tsai Chia Hsin of Chinese Taipei.
“Before we came to the tournament we had a lot of preparation for that match,” said Marcus Ellis after the match. “We knew that was the match that would make or break our tournament…It went just as we planned.”
The English pair now look await the winner of the match between Mads Conrad-Petersen / Mads Pieler Kolding of Denmark and India’s Pranaav Jerry Chopra / Akshay Dewalkar, as the field begins to narrow to include a parade of seeded and otherwise dangerous pairings.
