The Danish duo announced it on their Facebook page today.  Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen are splitting up after a successful 15-year partnership.  The two men reached the final of their first tournament together, the 2004 U.S. Open, where they finished as runners-up to a very interesting partnership.  They have had easily the longest international run of any pair in the top 50 in any doubles discipline and indeed have been playing together longer than most players have been competing internationally.

They have planned their swan song together at an event they have already won twice, and which, along with the Finals, marks the most prestigious title of their career.  However, the announcement came during the German Open, which is actually the event where the Danes won their first title together, 15 years ago.

The German victory in 2004 was the only title for Boe and Mogensen until the beginning of the Superseries era, when they won their first Superseries title in Korea in 2009 (pictured) and then added 15 more in the next 8 years, including the two at the All England and 3 at the Superseries Finals.  They also added 6 Grand Prix Gold titles, 3 Grand Prix, and 2 European Champion titles, as well as gold at the inaugural European Games in Baku in 2015 and silver at the London Olympics.  Their only title in the new , which replaced the Superseries/Grand Prix last year, was at last year’s Swiss Open Super 300.

Two days before their announcement, the Orleans Masters Super 100 event published its draws with the Danes included as the #2 seeds and they are also entered in the Swiss Open, where they would have been defending champions.  In Birmingham, Boe and Mogensen are slated to play their first match against Korea Masters champions Choi Sol Gyu and Seo Seung Jae.

Today, both names also appeared in new partnerships.  Carsten Mogensen is entered in the Singapore Open with Mads Pieler Kolding, while Mathias Boe and Mads Conrad Petersen – victims of the crippling BWF team event ranking point system – are #15 on the reserve list for the Polish International Challenge.
