Chen Long was the most recent but before him, Misaki Matsutomo / Ayaka Takahashi and Yoo Yeon Seong also joined one of badminton’s most exclusive clubs.  In the past few years, Since the last Olympics, the likes of Bao Yixin, Tang Jinhua, Ko Sung Hyun, and Li Xuerui have etched their names on the list of historical world #1 shuttlers.

But who will be the next to climb to the top of the world rankings?  Even among the current top ten, far fewer than half have ever been able to lay claim to that top spot in the rankings.  Only 3 in each of the singles top tens have ever done it.  Men’s doubles is the discipline where the wealth has been shared most equitably as 10 of the 20 players currently in the top ten have been the best at some point in their career.

As the first Superseries event of the year gets underway, we invite you to make your prediction in our latest Badzine Poll.  Feel free to explain your choice in the comments section below.

Note: This poll was closed after the India Open, where both Saina Nehwal and Fischer Nielsen/Pedersen did what they needed to do to clinch the world #1 spot for the first time in their career.  Thank you to all who voted and best of luck to the 13 other fine players who may yet get their shot at a view from the top of the world.
