Four pairs disqualified from Olympic women’s doubles

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has disqualified all four pairs involved in the match-fixing fiasco on Tuesday evening (see related article here).  The BWF’s Disciplinary Committee convened a hearing on Wednesday morning at which the decision was made to disqualify Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang  of China, Greysia Polii and Meiliana Jauhari of Indonesia and Jung Kyung Eun, Kim Ha Na, Ha Jung Eun, and Kim Min Jung, all of Korea, for violations of the BWF’s Players’ Code of Conduct – Sections 4.5 “not using one’s best efforts to win a match” and 4.16 “conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly abusive or detrimental to the sport”.

Later in the day, the committee heard appeals from the Indonesian and Korean pairs and a final decision will be announced at a press conference at Wembley Arena at 4:15PM London time.
