As promised, we are continuing to bring you weekly updates of the Badzine Olympic Dummy Lists. This week’s lists show that if the Olympic qualification period ended now, Beijing gold medallists Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan (pictured) would be back on the list. Their quarter-final finish at the Yonex German Open last week may have been a disappointment, even though they lost to the eventual champions, but it was enough to push their accumulated Olympic qualification points past compatriots Alvent Yulianto Chandra and Hendra Aprida Gunawan.
Unfortunately for Korea’s young hopefuls, the Indonesians wraught the only changes as we come up to 8 weeks from the deadline. Shon Wan Ho and Jung Kyung Eun / Kim Ha Na are both waiting just outside the men’s singles top 16 and women’s doubles top 8 respectively. Each made up considerable ground in Mulheim but the safety zone continues to elude them. Shon missed his chance at the All England. He stands less than 100 points from #16 Hans-Kristian Vittinghus, but with the Dane’s performance in Birmingham on Wednesday, Shon will likely have better luck chasing Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto, who is just under 200 points ahead.
Michelle Li of Canada continues to hold strong in two categories as she and Alex Bruce (pictured) passed compatriots Charmaine Reid and Nicole Grether after their performance at the Pan Am Uber Cup qualifier. Both pairs are winless so far on the European Grand Prix/Superseries tour this month.
Badzine’s lists are not official. Only the BWF is entitled to give the names of the qualifying shuttlers. We provide it only to give fans, and players themselves, a better view of the players who could potentially qualify for the London Olympics. These lists are updated by our trio of experts amongst which a BWF-certificated umpire – and takes into account the BWF’s own qualification rules.
Please find the latest lists at the links below. They have been calculated using the world ranking points published by the BWF from May 1st, 2011 to March 4th, 2012. We hope to continue to provide weekly updates from now until the end of the qualification period.
