This Grand Prix Gold event thus becomes the third event – after the Toulouse Volant d’Or and the New Zealand Open – to disappear from a still packed pre-Worlds schedule. The Thailand Open was to have been held concurrently with surprisingly nearby Russian Grand Prix in Vladivostok while the New Zealand event would have coincided with the U.S. Open in its new incarnation as a Grand Prix Gold tournament.
June-July-August still features 9 consecutive weeks of back-to-back Grand Prix and Super Series badminton, spanning 4 continental confederations, before a two-week break preceding the BWF World Championships in Paris:
