On May 9th, the Badminton Association of Thailand voted to cancel the SCG that was to have been held from June 27th to July 3rd.  The BAT came to the decision after considering the issue from all angles and determining that in the current state of turmoil in which Bangkok finds itself, the security of participants could not be guaranteed.

This Gold event thus becomes the third event – after the Toulouse Volant d’Or and the New Zealand Open – to disappear from a still packed pre-Worlds schedule.  The Thailand Open was to have been held concurrently with surprisingly nearby Russian in Vladivostok while the New Zealand event would have coincided with the U.S. Open in its new incarnation as a Gold tournament.

June-July-August still features 9 consecutive weeks of back-to-back Grand Prix and Super Series badminton, spanning 4 continental confederations, before a two-week break preceding the BWF World Championships in Paris:

Jun 8-13 Yonex-Sunrise India Open GP Gold
Jun 15-20 Li Ning Singapore Open Super Series
Jun 22-27 Djarum Indonesia Super Series
Jun 29-Jul 4 Russian Open GP / SCG Thailand Open GP Gold (cancelled)
Jul 6-11 Malaysia GP Gold
Jul 13-18 Yonex Australia Open GP / Yonex Canadian Open GP
Jul 20-25 Yonex/OCBC USA Open GP Gold / New Zealand Open GP (cancelled)
Jul 27-Aug 1 Macau Open GP Gold
Aug 3-8 Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold
