According to DNA, VK Verma, the current President of Badminton Association of India is seeking re-election in spite of a regulation mentionned last week by the Sports Ministry. Verma said “The government guidelines come into play if you are seeking its financial assistance from it,” then hinting that BAI had now become self-sufficient. “We have signed contracts with various sponsors to generate Rs four crore annually. So, we will not be requiring any financial assistance from the government,” he told DNA.
The current President also mentionned that former cricket star Azharuddin could be a candidate as there was nothing in BAI constitution to stop him from contesting in Sunday’s election.
