Yesterday, the Badminton World Federation released the draws for the upcoming 2010 Yonex , which is set to begin on August 3rd in Taipei. In fact, after years of lagging behind the other events of its level, this Gold event is finally in gear with a dedicated page on the TournamentSoftware website and the Live Scoring function ready to go, a full two weeks before the event commences.

Not only are the tournament organizers in top form, but of course the draw promises some breakthrough performances by the local badminton aces. Surprise Singapore Open runner-up Tai Tzu Ying will have to prove herself early as she is set to play top seed Yao Jie in the second round while it may be either she or former Taiwan great Cheng Shaoh Chieh who will play in the semi-final against Bae Youn Joo, one of three Korean players seeded in the event. Men’s singles top seed Nguyen Tien Minh will be looking for his second title of the year after his success in Australia but he will have stiff competition from Indonesia but before Simon Santoso or Sony Dwi Kuncoro can have their shot, the Vietnamese shuttler may have to play an India Open final rematch with their compatriot Alamsyah Yunus in the third round.

All three of the recently crowned Canada Open champions will be hoping for glory at home but they will all have their hands full as Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia are all sending their best pairs. In particular, if hot streak pair Fang Chieh Min / Lee Sheng Mu want the title, they will have to contend with former All England champions Koo/Tan of Malaysia or Korea’s Lee Yong Dae / Jung Jae Sung but defending champions Chen Hung Ling / Lin Yu Lang. The Taiwan pairs will have to be at the absolute top of their game at the end of a four-week haul of tournaments on both sides of the Pacific while much of their competition will be relatively fresh.
