Brice Leverdez (pictured) and Ella Diehl made their way to the Strasbourg Masters finals on Wednesday after beating title holder Marc Zwiebler and Sashina Vignes respectively. Leverdez surprised the German ace with his speed and took it home in no time 21-7, 21-11, in the snowy capital of the European Parliament, in the East of France.
“I was surprised to beat him by such a huge margin. We had played twice against each other and it was much closer in the past. I’m very satisfied with my win,” said the blue-eyed boy.
He will play Dicky Palyama in the final of the event. The Dutch, – a former winner here – beat Petr Koukal in straight games even if he was trailing from quite far in the second game before scooping his ticket 21-19.
Juliane Schenk, as the top seed, didn’t have to show up for the first day of this invitation tournament while Ella Diehl and Sashina Vignes – France’s second best shuttler in the world ranking – were fighting for the remaining spot. The Russian overplayed the Malaysian-born shuttler, who was playing in front of her home public.
In the men’s doubles, the final will feature France’s best Grosjean/Carême against Germany’s Kindervater/Schoettler.
