Reiko Shiota marries on her birthday

Retired Japanese badminton star Reiko Shiota has registered her marriage with J-League soccer player Tatsuya Masushima, both athletes reported on their blogs this week.  The registration was entered on September 30th, Reiko’s 29th birthday.

Reiko said in her blog that she and Masushima met about a year ago. As professional athletes, their busy schedules did not permit them to spend a lot of time together but for the same reason, they understood a lot about each other.

Masushima proposed in May and the registration has been done but no date for a wedding ceremony has yet been announced.  Reiko said she will do her best to perform her new role as wife of an athlete but she intends to pursue her career as a sportscaster.  Her contract with the Unisys corporate badminton team ends next month.
