Following a plea by Jwala Gutta, India’s High Court ordered the (BAI) to allow the doubles player to participate in tournaments until the finalization of disciplinary action against her.  The Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) reported that Justice V. K. Jain handed down the ruling on Thursday.

The BAI’s disciplinary committee had recommended a lifetime ban on Gutta but before this was finalized, they had already withdrawn her and partner Ashwini Ponnappa from next week’s Denmark Open.  Despite the High Court’s decision, it is unclear whether Gutta and Ponnappa will be re-admitted to the tournament by the Badminton World Federation.  Jwala Gutta faces the disciplinary action for her alleged role in an incident during the Indian Badminton League wherein her team the Delhi Smashers refused to play against the Banga Beats because of the latter’s attempted last-minute substitution for an injured singles player.
