Carsten Mogensen retains his sense of humour in the face of adversity, following brain .

Danish badminton ace Mathias Boe has had the unenviable task in the past week of updating fans of him and partner Carsten Mogensen after the latter suffered a ruptured aneurysm on February 18th while in Kazan for the European Men’s Team Championship.

According to Boe’s posts to the pair’s Facebook page, Mogensen collapsed last Thursday and was rushed to hospital, where surgeons managed to clip a ruptured aneurysm in his brain.  His family flew to Russia to be with him and he is still there beginning his recovery.

In an update yesterday, Boe said that Mogensen had not eaten since his surgery and that he was able to speak and walk but only with great difficulty and at the cost of a massive headache.  Boe claimed that his partner’s ‘lame humour’ had not left him.  After being told that not being able to sit would make flying home impossible, Mogensen replied: “Then I will just ride a bicycle home.”

According to the U.S.-based Brain Aneurysm Foundation, ruptured brain aneurysms are fatal in about 40% of cases so the Danish athlete may already be well ahead of the curve.  We at Badzine wish Carsten Mogensen a speedy and successful recovery.
