Juliane Schenk of Germany set the tone for the rest of Europe to follow at round two stage of the 100th . The German shuttler proved that on current form and consistency she is Europe’s premier player as she booked her quarter-final spot with a victory over Korean Bae Yoon Joo in 2 sets.

The German world number 11 proved her run to the final of her home German Open last week was in no way a fluke as her power game slipped into overdrive to quash the threat of the dangerous Korean.

The first set belonged to the German as she left Bae Yoon Joo rocking on her heels as she was dealt a 21-14 defeat in a game where Schenk (pictured) led from start to finish. The Korean stormed back in the second set to take a midsession lead at 11-6 but Schenk, as if to circle the wagons around her opponent, attacked with her raw power to take 6 points in a row to leave her opponent on her back foot.

The German sensing the insecurity of her opponent then forced her advantage home to take the set and match 21-16 and advance to a quarter-final meeting with Saina Nehwal of India. After securing victory, Schenk shared her thoughts and views on her match in an exclusive video interview with Badzine below.

There was double doubles joy for England today as, against the odds, the home nation progressed two pairs through to tomorrow’s quarter finals. Robertson and Wallwork (pictured) claimed a prestigious scalp as they beat current world champions Laybourn and Juhl in three sets while the ever more recently formed pair of Clark and Olver were victorious over Le Sheng Mu and Chien Yu Chin of Taipei.

For us, this has been a huge victory. We have spoken to each other about the need to beat a top pair and today we beat the world champions. I hope people can now take us seriously and Im so happy for Jenny [Wallwork] as this has been a huge result for her and one she deserves as she has worked so hard to get this far,” said a happy Robertson after his victory.
